    Press Release - IOM Greece Mission at Kos island

    IOM Greece in contact with the local authorities of Kos Island, the Police and the Coastguard  designates specialized and experienced staff to contribute to the management of the  situation arose from the massive arrivals of migrants during the last days. IOM staff is present by providing information to the newly arrived migrants, information about the options the undocumented migrants have, by evaluating, recording and collecting data, by reporting for the broader #MissingMigrants Project that IOM implements as a concept and a proposal globally.

    Within the World Humanitarian Summit in 2016, IOM Rome with the support of the Italian Government, organized  a Round Table on “Missing migrants on the move: a challenge for the global community in the new millennium” on 20 and 21 January 2015 in Rome.

    Not many month ago, IOM spokesperson Leonard Doyle commented on Media : “We want to turn #MissingMigrants into a powerful voice to warn future migrants against taking these high risk journeys. It is not doing it with a poster or a radio spot, but with the most persuasive means out there - the voices of survivors and the family members of missing migrants,” he adds."

    Iraq: Aid groups set to massively scale-up assistance

    An estimated 1.2 million Iraqis have been forced to flee their homes as a result of violence that has gripped the country since the beginning of the year. In July, the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced a US$500 million donation to help the United Nations and its humanitarian partners respond to the crisis. This contribution - one of the largest from a single donor for a specific crisis in UN history - means that the organization will be able to provide assistance to hundreds of thousands of people in need.

    On Friday 27 June 2014, International Organization for Migration – Office in Greece organized the closing event for the Program “Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration of Third Country Nationals to their country of origin” co-funded by the European Fund of Return (75%) and the Ministry of Public order and Citizen Protection (25%).

    Daniel Esdras joined IOM in 1987 as Project Assistant in IOM Greece, one of the oldest missions of the Organization (1952). In his years of service, he has had the honor of meeting and working with some of the most dedicated people in the international field who provide services and assistance to migrants throughout the world.
