“IOM helped me in regaining confidence in myself"

M.C. is a 34 years old man from Gambia, where he grew up with speech and hearing difficulties, due to an accident. When IOM met him in Korinthos, he was desperate to communicate again with the world. “IOM helped me to finally be able to express the thoughts that I had deep inside me since Ι was a child.” M.C. started learning the Greek sign language, through weekly online courses with the Polyhoros Kivotos organization. He was a dedicated student, and he never missed a class. This year, the IOM Skills Development team in Korinthos supported Muhammed also through labor market orientation services and he finally found a job for a six-star hotel in Rhodes. M.C. spent the summer in Rhodes and recently returned to Korinthos to say goodbye and to thank IOM for the support and guidance. He is a recognized refugee now; he believes in himself and knows that he can afford renting an apartment in an urban center while seeking for the next job. “IOM helped me in regaining confidence in myself. I know that there are many work and educational opportunities waiting for me out there and that I can seize them”.
