(01 Οctober 2019 – 30 June 2020/ 01 January 2022 – 31 January 2024)
Description:
With the objective to facilitate access of migrant children to formal education, IOM supports the daily transportation and escorting of migrant students from open accommodation sites and hotels to public schools. Activities are implemented by capitalizing on IOM’s previous experience since 2016, and with respect to COVID-19 preventative measures, in line with the guidelines of the relevant authorities[1].
To contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of beneficiaries residing in Accommodation Facilities and Reception & Identification Centers (RICs), IOM supports the Greek authorities through construction works and the provision of operational and logistical support. The main activities include the construction and/or renovation of recreational, accommodation and administrative spaces, fire protection works, coverage of fuel costs (for electricity, hot water, heating, etc.), as well as storage and transfer of NFIs and equipment from/to RICs, RIS and warehouses[2].
Target group & locations:
Migrant children residing in open accommodation sites in mainland Greece; Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) residing in temporary hotels in mainland Greece[3].
Migrants residing in Open Accommodation Centers in mainland Greece and Reception and Identification Centers in island and mainland Greece[4].
The project is funded by the Directorate General Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission (DG HOME)
