Hellenic Red Cross Opens New Accommodation Center  for Unaccompanied Minors in Athens

The Hellenic Red Cross, in the framework of the programme for the accommodation of Unaccompanied Minors, opened a new Accommodation Center in Athens, aimed at providing secure accommodation to unaccompanied minors.

The Accommodation Center not only focuses on ensuring safe living conditions for unaccompanied minors, but also on providing them with psychosocial support and other services, supporting their integration into the Greek society.

The operation of the Center began on 17 July 2017 providing hospitality to thirty unaccompanied minors.

Services provided include:

  • Housing, nutrition
  • Counselling and psychosocial support both on individual and group level
  • Legal counselling
  • Translation / mediation to community agencies
  • Greek language courses, tutoring
  • Escort to asylum services and hospitals
  • Intercultural and recreational activities
  • Primary health care services

The Accommodation Center has been renovated within the framework of the International Organization for Migration, the UN migration agency’s “Multi-sectoral assistance to and protection of migrants and refugees stranded in Greece” programme with funding from the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid.

Within the framework of the above mentioned funding, one more reception center for unaccompanied minors in Kalavryta has being renovated and started its operation.
