IOM congratulates the new caretaker Minister of Migration and Asylum, Daniel Esdras

IOM’s Mission in Greece congratulates Mr. Daniel Esdras for his appointment as a caretaker Minister of Migration and Asylum.

Mr. Esdras has a long-term experience on migration issues in Europe. He is also one of the main migration experts in Greece making him one of the most competent persons to lead the ministry.

Mr. Esdras worked working for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for more than 30 years. He also served as Chief of Mission to Greece from 1998 to 2017 when he was appointed as Special Envoy of the IOM Director General for Greece and the East Mediterranean.

Mr. Esdras has played an essential role in the set up of the migration management system of Greece promoting counter trafficking policies as well as assisted voluntary return programs.

In light of the recent migration developments, IOM Greece has played a significant role in supporting the Greek government in the field of migration. Many of these activities have been established thanks to Mr. Esdra’s contribution.
